POSITION SUMMARY The RP Group is looking for a part-time human resources consultant or employee to ensure the organization’s human capital serves the best interest of the organization and that the organization complies with all applicable employment and labor laws.

The RP Group is a remote organization with currently 18 staff members located throughout the state of California. The part-time human resources consultant or employee must be able to work from home (we all work remotely). HR work ebbs-and-flows monthly and seasonally, but is expected to average 10-15 hours per week (about 500 to 750 hours a year), based on previous HR activities across the previous seven years.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

BENEFITS ADMINISTRATION

● Manage annual open enrollment process for employee benefits (a March 1st benefits plan year; a January 1 calendar year for FSA, HRA, and LSA plans)

● Serve as Benefits Administrator and liaison to benefits insurance broker (Aliiant Insurance Services)

● Administer all benefit programs:

PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT

● Manage and administer annual staff evaluation process

● Work with the President of the Board to manage the Executive Director’s annual 360 performance evaluation by administering and updating surveys and providing “analysis” of collected data

RECRUITMENT

● Manage the recruitment cycle, hiring processes and on-boarding for new employees

● Maintain job descriptions with managers (see job description folder)

COMPENSATION RELATED

● Maintain and update internal compensation-related documents annually and as necessary

● Participate in annual compensation survey(s) for CA non-profits;

● Annual review of compensation for all employees with Executive Director

● Compensation related analysis for specific positions (i.e. for Executive Director role done annually)

EMPLOYEE RELATIONS

● Provide guidance, advice and counsel on employee performance, discipline, and termination matters as well as assistance in resolving employee or manager issues (work-related and/or personal)

● Serve as first point of contact for all staff’s HR questions

ADMINISTRATION

● Advise management on the administration of human resources policies, procedures, and best practices

● Develop, revise, and implement HR policies and procedures as needed

● Ensure and maintain HR programs and services are in compliance with established policies and procedures and state/federal laws and regulations

● Provide recommendations to develop organizational culture that creates a high performance environment that supports strategy implementation and employee satisfaction

● Maintain a secure online filing system for HR documents

● Maintain and update employee handbook in collaboration with Director of Operations

MINIMUM / ESSENTIAL REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

● Bachelor’s degree in a related field or directly related work experience

● Ten plus years of experience in a generalist human resources role – both large (>500 employees) and small company (<100 employees) experience is preferred

● Experience working as a one-person HR department, responsible for all aspects of HR (recruitment, employee relations, benefits administration, compensation)

● Effective communication skills (both written and verbal) including good listening skills

● Strong critical thinking skills

● Demonstrated ability to provide advice and counsel to all levels of the organization around employee and manager issues, performance management, benefits, compensation and employment issues etc.

● Ability to explain ideas and concepts in a simplified manner

● Strong understanding of CA employment laws

● Ability and willingness to provide thought leadership on HR issues and to work at both the managerial and administrative levels

● Effective decision making skills

EXPERIENCE CONSIDERED A PLUS

  • Work experience in a non-profit work environment
  • Experience using AI software
  • Working knowledge of California higher education or the community colleges system
