Key Responsibilities As an Overnight Data Entry Specialist, you will be the backbone of our laboratory information system (LIS) during the night shift. Your responsibilities will include Accurately entering patient, client, billing, and test information into the LIS. Verifying data integrity and resolving discrepancies in real‑time. Ensuring strict adherence to HIPAA regulations and internal compliance standards. Answering and directing incoming client calls with professionalism and empathy. Cross‑training in accessioning identifying specimen types, sorting, labeling, and preparing samples for testing. Collaborating with laboratory technologists, quality assurance, and billing teams to streamline workflows. Maintaining a high level of confidentiality and data security at all times. Participating in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance data accuracy and process efficiency. Essential Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent; additional education in health sciences or information technology is a plus. Minimum typing speed of 8,000 keystrokes per hour with a high degree of accuracy. Strong computer literacy proficiency with Windows, Excel, and data entry software. Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work independently in a fast‑paced environment. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to maintain focus during overnight hours (1030 pm – 700 am) and on rotating weekends. Experience in a clinical or laboratory setting is highly desirable. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience with laboratory information systems (LIS) or electronic health record (EHR) platforms. Knowledge of laboratory accessioning procedures and specimen handling. Familiarity with HIPAA compliance and data privacy best practices. Previous exposure to billing and coding in a healthcare environment. Certification in data entry or health information management.
