<strong>Description<br><br></strong>As a Senior Operations Engineer, you will lead and manage the lifecycle of challenging cross-functional projects, developing and delivering the next generation of sortation and distribution solutions. You are a customer obsessed leader that will play an integral part in planning and implementation of the facility network infrastructure including new builds, retrofits, expansions and program initiatives. Partnering with internal customers and internal/external stakeholders to engage as a team and ensure a timely handover will be part of your critical tasks.<br><br>As a Senior Operations Engineer for Amazon, you will work with some of the most talented engineers in the design, development, and delivery of physical distribution systems around the globe. You are responsible for managing a technology or integration project, successfully delivering the solution to meet project goals. You may work directly with external equipment vendors, customers, or partners, and you have a solid understanding of the design approaches and industry technologies utilized in fulfillment and distribution center designs. To meet timelines and minimize disruption to support teams, you manage the overall schedule, proactively mitigate risks, and keep the scope of engineering deliverables under control.<br><br>This role requires up to 80% travel and availability to work from a corporate office when not traveling. Candidates should either live near or be willing to relocate within a reasonable commuting distance of the office. Relocation assistance may be provided.<br><br>Key job responsibilities<br><br><ul><li> Independently manage complex project lifecycles across organizations and geographies, delivering on objectives and targets as project owner.</li><li> Participate in engineering reviews, providing tangible impact on system solutions, architecture, and facility processes.</li><li> Partner with internal teams, stakeholders, and vendors to set priorities, establish milestones, and drive schedules. Proactively identify dependencies, problem-solve, and mitigate risks.</li><li> Lead execution of systems and automated equipment designs per established standards. Perform installation, throughput, and safety qualifications. Optimize systems and resolve technical deficiencies.</li><li> Facilitate effective meetings with clear objectives and appropriate stakeholders. Document discussions, decisions, and action items to ensure alignment.</li><li> Communicate project status, risk analysis, and mitigation plans promptly and accurately. Provide clear, concise summaries to leadership.</li><li> Articulate system and equipment designs, including layouts, specifications, and capabilities to internal customers and partners.</li><li> Manage change orders, purchase orders, and invoice approvals efficiently.</li><li> Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders across multiple projects.</li><li> Identify and lead process improvement initiatives that enhance team efficiency and deliver cost-effective solutions.</li><li> Travel up to 80% domestically, with variable intensity including extended trips up to three weeks.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Basic Qualifications<br><br></strong><ul><li> Bachelor's degree</li><li> Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other STEM field</li><li> 8+ years of experience as a Project Engineer, Process Engineer, Project Manager, Manufacturing Engineer, or related occupation</li><li> Experience managing the lifecycle of cross-functional projects, implementing automated equipment and/or integrated systems</li><li> Experience with CAD software (AutoCAD, REVIT, BIM 360, etc.)<br><br></li></ul><strong>Preferred Qualifications<br><br></strong><ul><li> Master's degree in engineering, mechanical, operations, supply chain, business administration, or equivalent STEM field</li><li> Experience in Lean Management, Six Sigma and other operations engineer tools</li><li></li><li> Master’s degree in Engineering, Operations, Business Administration, or a related STEM field</li><li></li><li> Operations Management/Distribution Center experience with direct management or responsibility for material handling, automation, or other technical projects</li><li></li><li> Experience with Six Sigma and/or Lean Manufacturing</li><li></li><li> Experience with Microsoft Project, Smartsheet programs</li><li></li><li> Experience with design and/or implementation automation solutions, such as Conveyors, Sorters, high speed manufacturing and packaging lines, Robotic work cells</li><li></li><li> Proven technical leadership for industrial engineering projects or program<br><br></li></ul>Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status.<br><br>Los Angeles County applicants: Job duties for this position include: work safely and cooperatively with other employees, supervisors, and staff; adhere to standards of excellence despite stressful conditions; communicate effectively and respectfully with employees, supervisors, and staff to ensure exceptional customer service; and follow all federal, state, and local laws and Company policies. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
