Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Programmers.io is seeking an IBMi Applications Architect to define and implement architecture and technical solutions for IBM i applications. The role focuses on modernization, development, integration, database optimization, technical leadership, documentation, security, performance, and mentoring IBM i development teams.


Responsibilities

  • Define application architecture and technical solutions for IBM i applications
  • Design scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions using RPGLE, RPG IV, CLLE, SQL, and DB2 for i
  • Analyze existing legacy applications and develop modernization strategies
  • Lead application development, enhancement, migration, and integration initiatives
  • Design and optimize DB2 for i databases, SQL queries, stored procedures, and data models
  • Integrate IBM i applications with APIs, web applications, cloud platforms, and third-party systems
  • Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance to development teams
  • Establish coding standards, development practices, and application architecture principles
  • Conduct code reviews, performance analysis, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis
  • Work with business analysts and stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions
  • Develop technical documentation, architecture diagrams, and solution designs
  • Evaluate new technologies and recommend appropriate modernization approaches
  • Ensure applications meet security, availability, scalability, and performance requirements
  • Mentor IBM i developers and support knowledge transfer across the team

Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
  • 8+ years of experience developing and architecting IBM i/AS400 applications
  • Strong hands-on experience with RPGLE/RPG IV, CLLE, SQL, and DB2 for i
  • Experience with IBM i architecture, system integration, and application lifecycle management
  • Strong knowledge of database design, performance tuning, and SQL optimization
  • Experience with REST APIs, web services, and integration technologies
  • Experience with source control, CI/CD, and modern software development practices
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and technical leadership skills
  • IBM i modernization and legacy application transformation
  • Free-form RPG and modern RPGLE development
  • IBM i services and SQL-based system interfaces
  • RESTful APIs and JSON/XML integration
  • Java, .NET, JavaScript, or other modern technologies
  • Git and CI/CD pipelines
  • IBM i security, performance tuning, and high availability
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
